I saw the hashtag #100thingstodobeforeyoudie for the first time at the end of 2014 and I already had in mind some of the items on the list.

Reading time 9 minutes

Then I completely forgot about it! But sometimes, while reading travel articles, I thought “I should add it to my bucket list”.

My list is only about trips, just because all the wishes of my life, the ones I express when staring at falling stars, are about having the chance to travel as much as possible. It entails of course being healthy and having enough time to do it, but this doesn’t only depend on me. On the other hand, setting a deadline to each dream it’s up to me and it makes them more achievable goals.

This is also a way to remind myself that I’m not only able to make a wish, but also to fulfil it. Then, and it’s not irrelevant, it’s an easy way to remember all of them.

I decided to only mention dreams that could come true, since I think this list is useful only as long as we talk about possible situations. Of course I’d like to write down things like “step on the Moon”, but – at this time – I’m not into studying for years to become an astronaut, so other destinations were given priority. Nothing can’t be achieved, let’s be honest. I read about an Italian man who travelled around China on a Vespa scooter, another traveller (an American man maybe, but I’m not sure about it) who crossed the Tartar steppe being self-sufficient and about poeple who visited almost all the African country by bike. You just have to believe in it and roll up your sleeves!

Since we two go “around around” together, I shared this list with my husband. He has already visited some of these places and I’ve done the same with others, so we gave priority to the ones where none of us has been yet. Let’s see what will happen, after these 100 ones!

It “just” took me 5 years to complete it, but in the end “it doesn’t matter how slowly you go, as long as you don’t stop” (Confucio), right?

100. Have the chance to make another list of 100 things to do before I die

I’ll be honest, I had a hard time stopping myself at 100. I’d like to live in South Africa for a while, to walk along the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, to get lost while strolling around the blue mosaics in Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Well, I already have many ideas about trips I’d like to go on. That’s the reason why item number 100 is about the next list. The importance of having goals in life is closely related to our personal, emotional, intellectual and spiritual growth, to our self-determination: from this perspective we can say that it’s all about the journey.

I’ll conclude with a consideration: most of the times it’s not all about what you achieve, but about the kind of person you become. That happens because since when we strive for a goal, this goal starts affecting us: our wishes won’t be fulfilled by things we crave, rather by the person we become while trying to reach them.

Everything comes from our mind first and it then becomes reality through our actions. Think about all the human inventions, all the scientific discoveries, all the things successfully done by multinational corporations: before they could become reality, they were just thoughts in someone’s mind. That’s the same when talking about positive visualization, we can assert that our repetitive thoughts shape and determine our own reality.

In order to let our best future come true, we’d better have a picture of it and control what we focus on. Planning makes goals possible and reachable.

The importance of goals in life is represented by the transition from whom we are to whom we’d like to become.

Interesting facts

A group of researchers from the University of Texas and Minnesota A&M carried out a research in order to understand how the goals we set for ourselves affect our happiness. According to this research by Texas A&M University, happiness derives from the way we establish our goals and that, when these are more general and not about work, they give a long-lasting happiness.

Now it’s up to you, good luck with your list! 😀
