The Ciudad Encantada (the Enchanted City) is one of the most amazing places in Spain, without any doubt. Located in the heart of the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park and surrounded by large pine forests, Ciudad Encantada is a place where you can discover the karst process and admire its unusual formations.

Its origins go back to 90 million years ago, when Ciudad Encantada was still entirely covered by the calm waters of the Thetis sea, which led to the sediment of salts, especially calcium carbonate. At the end of the Cretaceous and as a result of Alpine orogeny, the sea receded and the sea bottom, made up of limescale, came up to the surface.
In 1929 the Enchanted City has been declared a natural site of national interest and a World Heritage Site in 1966.
Thousands of years of water, wind and ice erosion led to this amazing geological phenomenon. Both children and grown-ups can enjoy a magical atmosphere, where you should definitely let your imagination run free.
The itinerary through Ciudad Encantada is well marked. Many of the rock formations along the route have been labelled with names of shapes they remind of and they actually look like the shapes attributed to them. Being honest, we have seen more figures than the ones we were told about|
