We went on this trip to Spain by car and arriving from Reus we stopped in Siurana, also known as Siurana de Prades o Ciurana di Terragona.
The route to get to this fairytale place by car is amazing: overhanging rocky mountains of a thousand colors accompanied us during thousands of curves. A breathtaking charm.

Siurana is a Spanish village of just 36 people located in the autonomous community of Catalonia and has been laying on a cliff since unmemorable times. It has recently been discovered that its first, prehistoric inhabitants had a flint laboratory in the area.
As a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate, Siurana has been defined ‘an exeptional example of a traditional human settlement, a traditional land use and representative of a culture and human interaction with the environment’. Proof of it is the historical centre made of cobbled paving streets, stone houses, the Romanesque church of Saint Mary and the ruins of the ninth century Arab castle, with one of the best views of Catalonia : the river Priorat, the Montsant mountains, the peaks of Gritella and Gallicant. And, among all this, the impregnable Siurana.

According to the legend, a princess named Abdelazia ommitted suicide during the reconquest of the village.
After more than three centuries of siege and due to the necessity of four knights to take control of the cliff, Abdelaiza saw the legitimacy and the power of her caliphate as compromised and she decided it would be better to die than to be conquered.
So she rode a horse and, against the instincts of both, she threw herself off the cliff.

If nature and climbing are your passion, , Siurana is perfect for you. Surrounded by the Sierra del Montsant, the Gritella peak and the Prades mountains, with beautiful cliffs, Siurana is an important climbing site with more than a thousand vertical routes overhanging on limestone rock.
